MERLIN INTERNATIONAL AWARDED KEY IMAGING CONTRACT with the department of veteran affairs

Vista Imaging Integral Part of VA’s comprehensive electronic health records system

DENVER and WASHINGTON D.C. – April 15, 2008 Merlin International, a leading government systems integrator, today announced that it has been awarded the VistA Imaging Support contract from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) VistA VCS Task Order program. The VistA Imaging program will address critical needs in the VA’s electronic health record system to ensure that the best information is available for serving the medical needs of veterans.

“The VA continues to be a priority engagement for us,” said Mark Zalubas, vice president, Enterprise Solutions Division, Merlin International. “Working with the VA to utilize the best available technology and services to delivery high quality healthcare to our nation’s veterans is one of Merlin’s most important initiatives.”

VistA Imaging is an integral part of the VA’s comprehensive electronic health record system. The need to provide more complete and fully integrated medical and document imaging solutions is growing as the diverse population of clinicians and other health care service providers who are increasingly reliant on the system grows. Satisfying these needs is critical to meeting the VA health care delivery mission. Critical information must be delivered with the highest accuracy and reliability or the very mission it is intended to serve will suffer.

Merlin will provide the VistA Imaging program, which includes Telemedicine, DoD, Filmless Radiology, Document & Ancillary, and Core Infrastructure, with professional software maintenance support services. The VistA Imaging program integrates state-of-the-art hardware and software to provide online patient clinical images and scanned documents to VA’s healthcare providers, increase clinician productivity, facilitate medical decision-making, and improve the quality of care for our nation’s Veterans. VistA Imaging captures clinical images, scanned documents, EKG waveforms and other non-textual data files and makes them part of the computerized patient record (CPRS) or commonly referred to in the industry as the electronic healthcare record (EHR).

The VistA Imaging program was initially deployed two years ago. During the upcoming year, the Merlin program will continue to provide important enhancements in the deployed components of the system, address new imaging opportunities in areas such as telemedicine, and address the requirement of VA-DoD interoperability. In addition, Merlin will work with the VA to meet the emerging requirements associated with managing a deployed system, including establishing sustainable enhancement and maintenance operations, improving overall software development process maturity, and planning for the future requirements.
