REDWOOD CITY, Calif., August 11, 2006–
Ingres Corporation, the leading business open source database company, today announced a strategic partnership with Merlin International a leading federal information technology solutions provider, to provide federal customers with expert support services and enterprise open source database solutions. As part of the partnership, Ingres has been added to Merlin's federal contract vehicles and will immediately begin reselling and distributing Ingres products to the federal information technology market. The companies also will conduct joint sales engagements.
With 20-plus years of experience delivering enterprise databases, Ingres has a rich history of secure deployments and has been entrusted with securing sensitive data by federal governments across the globe.
“It is a Merlin priority to offer our extensive federal customer base with solutions that address the challenges they are facing today,” said David Phelps, CEO and president, Merlin International. “The need for security-certified solutions continues to be critical for many government agencies. Partnering with Ingres also allows us to pass along the benefits of the established world of closed source software with the new paradigm and cost efficiencies of open source.”
Today, government agencies are evaluating open source solutions for their data center to meet the public, legislative, and economic demands of the public sector. Ingres is competitive because it offers federal agencies a compelling alternative to the high, up-front licensing costs offered by closed-sourced vendors and helps them to become more efficient and cost conscious with their IT investments.
"Open source presents many opportunities for federal customers to adopt more flexible, less expensive software solutions. We're very pleased to be partnering with Merlin as they are a leader in providing technology solutions in to the federal market place,” said Mike Coney, executive vice president of Sales and Support at Ingres Corporation. “Together, we can help federal customers reclaim their stake in vendor relationships by providing a mature and secure open source database alternative. Ingres's technology leadership comes from decades of production enterprise deployments.”
Under the terms of the agreement, Merlin has also joined Ingres Involve, Ingres's partner program designed to help partners achieve success by easily and cost-effectively integrating Ingres products with their core solution offerings.
